The smartphone with a folding screen: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2

In recent times, of course, many innovative phones have appeared on the market, as long as the phone was rectangular with preferably as few buttons as possible to keep the touchscreen as large as possible. Over the years, the changes mainly took place by adding a more powerful battery, a better camera, a sharper touchscreen image and so on. However, the Galaxy Fold is the first smartphone in ages to bring about more than the aforementioned points; an actual new smartphone with a unique design. The first smartphone that is smaller in your pocket than when in use.
Design of the Galaxy Fold
As you could read above, the most unique thing about the design is that you can fold the Fold (as the name implies in English). The screen inside is about the same size in length as a normal, slightly larger smartphone. Thanks to the smooth casing, the phone slides easily into your pocket and takes it out in no time, either. The outside screen, called the "Cover Display" by Samsung, is 4.6" at a ratio of 21:9. The thickness of the phone is 16.5 mm, and thus very contained. By comparison; old phones with physical, slide-out keyboards were much thicker (think of the good old days of the Samsung d900 and e900). Also, the hinge that allows you to fold the phone feels very solid, you can only open and close it. There is no other flexibility in it so you can't accidentally twist the phone or otherwise open it (too far).
Specifications of the Galaxy Fold
But enough about the design of this smartphone, let's also take a look at the specifications of this unique device. Also not entirely unimportant right? The Fold features six cameras. And yes you read that correctly again; six cameras. Three on the back, two on the inside and one on the front. That way you can always take a picture no matter which way you hold the phone. The Fold has the same camera setup as the S10 (12 and 10 megapixels), although of course the experience is completely different.
By the way, the Fold uses two batteries, one in each part of the case. This amounts to a totality of 4380 mAh, which makes for a phone that lasts a nice long time. Charging is via one USB-c port on the bottom and can be done with up to 25W. Furthermore, the Fold features a generous 12GB Ram.
Price of the Galaxy Fold
When you put so much innovation and solid specifications into one phone, you can naturally expect a higher-than-average price tag, and there certainly is one. The Fold currently costs you 1925 euros. Whether it's worth this price depends entirely on what you consider important about a smartphone. Of course, you are more than the glitz with this phone, and the specifications are not bad either. Whether the price will go down soon (because, for example, another version is coming) is not known at this time.

Do you always want to show off something cool at a party or amaze your parents with an innovative piece of technology? Then of course this phone is more than recommended! Of course, the Fold is more than just a party trick, it is otherwise a fine working device and you will not lose out.
Smartphones have become boring in the eyes of many, but this phone thankfully brings some life back into the mix. Something much needed, hopefully this will open the door for more exciting and innovative devices. Whether it is the smartphone of the future I prefer to leave in the middle, however, it certainly tastes like more, if your taste is a bit more expensive!
