Apple won't bring back Touch ID in new iPhones after all

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Pro models of future iPhones will not see a return of the fingerprint scanner after all, which would be built into the screen. Even though the rumors are such that Apple has been working on this for years, apparently they have changed their mind and are foregoing a return of Touch ID on Pro models.

Face ID a keeper

In 2017, Apple replaced Touch ID with facial recognition (Face ID). This began with the iPhone X, with Apple abandoning the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, which was built into previous iPhones by the old and familiar home button. In previous years, Apple tested different types of techniques to add a fingerprint scanner under the screen and also in the power button on the side of the iPhone. However, this is so not going to happen in the future according to the always well-informed Gurman, who thinks Face ID is a keeper for the next few years.

Perhaps in the iPhone SE after all?

Although according to Gurman it is strong that Touch ID will return in the Pro models of the new iPhones, it is not entirely inconceivable for the entry-level model, the iPhone SE. Here, the Touch ID scanner could be built into the power button, though that won't happen anytime soon. Still, it is interesting that Apple is apparently thinking about perhaps doing this in the future for the cheaper models anyway. An interesting choice.

iPhone 15 and Apple event

There have been rumors about the potential incorporation of Touch ID under the screen for several years. Many Android devices already have a fingerprint scanner near the screen or on the side of the device. Last year, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thought that the iPhone 15 would most definitely get an in-screen fingerprint scanner. By the way, as always, the iPhone 15 is expected in the fall of next year. In addition, the presentation of the iPhone 14 was probably the last major Apple event, according to several analysts. Apple is expected to announce very soon the new 11 and 12.9" inch iPad Pro and new versions of the MacBook Pro and Mac Mini with M2 chips, but this would go through multiple press releases. A major Apple TV upgrade is also likely to arrive at the end of the year.

We are curious to see if any of this is going to happen!
